Seventeen-year-old Victoire Du Sault has been expelled from every school she's ever attended. The young woman struggles with authority and refuses to be pigeonholed. After crafting her first shoes in the stable of her family home, she decides she will make it her profession: she will be a shoemaker. She then falls in love with an older man with whom she unfortunately has no future. She therefore sets her sights on another boy, charming, gentle, and respectful, with whom she will start a family. But she will never be able to forget her first love.
