The short, but long, and complex history of Alberta's Francophone community, in a poetic and sung version

As part of the ACFA's 100th anniversary celebrations, the City of the Rockies and FrancoMusik Alberta are proud to present the grand premiere of Francophonique on September 18, 2026.

Come and experience an immersive performance celebrating Franco-Albertan history, memory, and identity, where theatre, music, and personal stories intertwine. On stage, three actors and four musicians bring to life the defining moments of our collective journey. Around them, in a minimalist set design, original songs performed live and archival footage projected on a large screen interact: past and present converse, and generations recognize themselves.

Neither a lesson nor nostalgia: a show on a human scale, funny and moving, which feels like a reunion for French speakers and a discovery for everyone else (in French, with English translation on screen). You leave with one certainty, that of Jim Corcoran: "A living language is a sung language."«

From the release of his first album, singer-songwriter Fred Dionne distinguished himself both on stage and in the media with a unique French-language country-folk-bohemian sound. With his charisma and catchy melodies, he landed opening slots for Matt Lang and 2Frères across Quebec, in addition to performing his first shows at major festivals, including LASSO Montréal. This debut album, Highways, garnered significant radio airplay and topped the charts, earning him the Francophone Revelation Award from WKND. He then won his first Willie Award for Song of the Year at the Gala Country and received his first ADISQ nomination for Country Album of the Year with the collective Grande Ourse. Following a road trip through Nevada and California, the artist presents his second album, Eldorado. Fred Dionne offers us a beautiful continuation of this inspiring journey with his musical project. Mature and self-assured, this second opus deals with the quests of a musician with a bohemian spirit, the evolution of his dreams and aspirations and above all, the people who cross his path and travel it with him.

With confidence and a wealth of stage experience, Fred Dionne continues his tour Eldorado across Quebec. After a summer marked by remarkable performances at the Festival d'été de Québec, the Festival Country Lotbinière, and the Festival Western de St-Tite, he continues to captivate audiences with his authentic stories, charisma, and infectious energy. The year 2025 further confirms Fred Dionne's growing prominence on the Quebec and Canadian country music scene. He also received a nomination at the Canadian Country Music Awards in the category Francophone Artist of the Year, it stands out with three ADISQ nominations Album of the Year — Country, My First Nomination and College Song Award, as well as a nomination for the ADISQ Radio Awards' Emerging Artists category for the second consecutive year. In 2026, Fred Dionne continued this momentum with a nomination at the Canadian Folk Music Awards in the category Francophone songwriter of the year, in addition to winning the SOCAN Country Music Awards, confirming his place among the essential artists of the current French-speaking country-folk scene.

Que vous soyez amateur de musique populaire, de jazz ou simplement de belles interprétations livrées avec authenticité et sensibilité, ce spectacle promet de vous laisser le sourire aux lèvres bien après le rappel final.

Grâce à sa voix chaleureuse, expressive et profondément touchante, Shari charme les publics du Canada et des États-Unis depuis de nombreuses années. Reconnues pour leur authenticité, leur élégance musicale et la connexion sincère qu’elle crée avec son auditoire, ses prestations l’ont amenée à partager la scène lors d’événements spéciaux mettant en vedette des artistes tels que Céline Dion, Al Jarreau, Chantal Kreviazuk, PJ Perry, Tommy Banks And Oliver Jones, pour n’en nommer que quelques-uns. Shari est également fière d’avoir fait partie de la distribution originale bilingue montréalaise de la célèbre comédie musicale Les Misérables.

À ses côtés, deux des musiciens les plus accomplis de Calgary : le pianiste, arrangeur et directeur musical Jon Day, ainsi que le contrebassiste de renom Rob Hutchinson. Ensemble, ce trio exceptionnel offre une complicité naturelle et une musicalité remarquable qui enchantent le public à chaque représentation.

Au programme : une riche sélection de grands classiques intemporels, des standards de jazz, des compositions originales, des anecdotes touchantes derrière les chansons, de magnifiques œuvres francophones de Michel Legrand, des extraits de Les Misérables, quelques perles musicales inattendues et peut-être même quelques surprises.

Cette représentation marque les débuts de Shari au Café-Théâtre de la Cité des Rocheuses, ce qui rend l’événement particulièrement significatif. Inspiré par les amitiés et l’accueil chaleureux qu’elle a trouvés au sein de cette communauté, Feels Like Home célèbre le sentiment d’appartenance, la musique et le plaisir de les partager ensemble.

5:30 PM – Ouverture des portes du Café-Théâtre. Profitez de ce moment pour vous installer et savourer un repas ou une consommation avant le début du spectacle.19 h 30 – Début du spectacle de Shari.20 h 10 – Entracte de 15 minutes.20 h 25 – Reprise du spectacle.9:00 PM – Fin prévue de la représentation.

Afin de préserver l’ambiance intimiste du Café-Théâtre et d’offrir une expérience optimale à tous, aucune prise de commande ni service aux tables ne seront effectués pendant les parties du spectacle. Le service sera offert avant la représentation ainsi que durant l’entracte. Le bar restera toutefois ouvert pendant toute la durée de la soirée.
