The Ordre de Jacques Cartier (the Patente) was a so-called "secret" society that served French Canadians and Acadians as a networking tool and infiltration from 1926 to 1965. At the height of its activities in the mid-50s, it brought together about 12,000 men with patriotic, Catholic and pro-francophone values. Its objectives were simple: to defend the interests of Canada's francophone minorities through a militant elite that infiltrated and influenced the administration of public bodies and private companies. A powerful lobby to which the father of director Phil Comeau belonged.
