Adapted from the novel Intimacy Alice Ferney's feature film (published in 2020) tells the touching story of Sandra, a fifty-something feminist bookseller played by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, whose life takes a dramatic turn when she finds herself welcoming Elliott, the son of her neighbors. After a tragedy, she gradually becomes a central figure for this child, for Alex, his father (played by Pio Marmaï), and for little Lucille, born in turmoil.
Through delicate writing and understated direction, Carine Tardieu explores the (re)construction of a family beyond blood ties. The film highlights the importance of chosen affections, unexpected support, and emotional resilience in the face of grief and loneliness.
